“I’ve never been one for overt flattery in portraiture so was thrilled to have Gideon Summerfield‘s work, with its Freudian levels of scrutiny, introduced to me last summer. I was fortunate enough to meet Gideon in New York and then again in London, sitting for him in both cities. The result is this portrait drawing, which I can see is full of the artist’s idiosyncrasies as a draughtsman. There is a rawness and honesty to the way Gideon portrays people, that some may find a little overwhelming, but that I believe reveals a maturity and artistic self-confidence far beyond his years (23). Thank you Gideon, I wouldn’t change a mark!”
